correct date or not on a T 10

How much of a hit would I take with a correct T 10 year but incorrect month if I get the car judged.
Is it worth the wait to find the correct date or just buy a correct year ? I'm not sure what to do.

When you say incorrect month............. what is the build month of car vs trans ? Just double checking for you.

Stewart, lets ignore the month for a moment. It does seem from your posts that you really want to be date correct. Saying that, determine the build date of your car.

This is a 63 example, I have seen T10's stamped as little as 10 days prior to the car build date. In my case it's 18 days. NCRS gives a 6 month window on dates.

As I suggested, determine the build date of your car, back up between 2 weeks and 6 weeks and whatever the month is, the month is. This will allow you to look for, at least two months worth of stamps.

      Good luck.

Much better spoken........... that's what I was getting at. My trans is early Nov 62 and the car is late Jan 63.

In answer to your point deduction question there is a total of 26 points for the transmission. 17 of those are for originality and 9 are for condition. My guess would be if you had the right tranny with the wrong date it would only be a 8 or 9 point deduction, I'm sure a real Judge will chime in and verify. I'm just going by the scoring sheets I have for 58-62's. If points are what you are after I suggest you get yourself a set of scoring sheets from NCRS. Hope this helps

I forgot to mention where to get scoring sheets. If you go to the NCRS Home page, scroll down to the NCFS Judging Awards, click on it, then scroll down to Flight Awards and you will see an option to download them.

Re: correct date or not on a T 10

When I asked these same questions last year I was told that the dates aren't judged but that they could start judging them in the future. One of the "skinny judges" chimed in that he does look at the dates though.

I bought a T-10 that was assembled in early June 1960 for my car that was assembled May 27, 1960 (SLAD). I was going to go with that one since I had trouble finding a better dated T10. I ended up finding a better one dated May 13, 1960. I was told the lag from transmission assembly date to the SLAD in May 1960 was about 2 weeks.

I found that some T10s are made from mismatched pieces and you should make sure the main case, side cover and tail stock have dates generally close to each other. A month is ideal but the factory did have some with a few months apart. Be careful with restamps as well. Some main cases are restamped.

I would put a WTB ad in the Driveline.
