    Blue 1965 327 Engines

In what application could a medium blue "870" block have been used?
    Thanks in advance.

I had a look at a pair of 1966 327 marine engines once. They were blue. I've also seen older GMC small blocks that were a green or blue color.

Joe, I don't know if this lead is any good, but, my late Dad purchased a rebuilt, complete engine from a Sears store in the late 1960s, for his 1964 Impala (327). I can still remember that the engine was painted a medium blue color. No traces of orange paint on it.
Good carburetion is fuelish hot air . . .

I seem to remember GM Bullit replacement engines being blue..but am not sure how far back that goes.

I think the replacement engine I had installed in my 74 vert at the dealer was blue. That was in the 80's.

At the beginning of the 1957 model year, 265 engines for passenger cars were painted green. By the end of the year, however, they were being painted the same color as their big brother, the 283.

In the 80's you could buy a new 350 (long block- head and block assembly) for $995.00 in Canada. They may have been an even better price in the U.S. They were called Target engines and were made in Mexico.

They were to compete with rebuilts. A great deal for this part of the world. Lots were sold at that price. Was't long before they were $1195.00 then $18 or 1995.00. With that I think sales volume wasn't as brisk. Target engines were blue. But all the Chevy small blocks were blue then until they switched to black to reduced oil leak warranty claims.

"Target" engines that I bought were black, made in Mexico. They would run like crazy North, but not worth a damn South.

Correction, I believe Wayne is right. Target engines were black. Sorry

I said Bullit engine..but your post is correct Target engine is what I got when I took my 74 vert into the dealer for a replacement engine sometime in the 80's and at least I remember it being blue. I have the invoice somewhere and as I recall the total with installation was about $1200.
