Was my booklet added to the docs later in life by a former owner?
    Don,
It is possible that the booklet was printed before the date. Seems odd but I'd say its entirely possible. It's also possible that someone put the booklet in the car at some time after 1972. Unless you are the original owner you have no way of knowing for sure if its the original booklet. This booklet was part of the original Chevrolet paperwork. It was not installed at the dealer.

Here's my take... There's WAY too much made over which edition of this/that book/phamphlet is 'correct' for a certain car!

I've never seen the PN of the publication change when the revision rolled and that means they were all binned together, mixed. Like engine assy date codes and other parts that were dated, they were pulled at random from inventory and sent to a given vehicle.

Sometimes when inventory was getting low, the older earlier parts 'popped' out of the bottom of the bin, or jumped off the back of the shelf. About the only thing you can say for certain is a given edition with a known publication date shouldn't post-ceed the build date of the vehicle it shipped with!

The point here is why is there a September dated book in an August built car. Very understandable question especially as the booklet was installed in ST. Louis. Pretty simple and its not making to much of which edition is correct for which car.

If one checks page 0-17 of the '72 AIM, it calls out a list of items to be shipped with the car from St Louis, included is two versions of the emissions control book, part numbers 737419 used with the Z49 for Canadian cars, and 325080 for US delivered cars. Canadian vehicles also carried a different warranty book. I would assume the Canadian units would be Bilingual versions.

By the way, based on the picture, they were standard for all Chevrolet lines in '72, so a donor Impala or Chevelle might be a good source to check rather than asking about a "Corvette" item.

No, my comment was to the original post and not to the issue of how a Sept book goes out with an August car... It doesn't!

But, paperwork could have been swapped at the delivering dealer... Unfortunately, that makes the car an exception placing the burden of proof upon the owner, eh?

Thanks all. Unfortunately, I feel like I've hijacked this post, but the question remains. Jack says "paperwork could have been swapped at the delivering dealer... Unfortunately, that makes the car an exception placing the burden of proof upon the owner, eh?"

What proof? Exception? Swapped with what? The booklet I have is dated AFTER the car, that's clear. The problem is - the booklet I have is FIRST edition. My earlier question remains: What came before first edition? Anybody else have an emissions control system doc for a '72, that was built before September '71?

                  Don,
You have an early car and a first edition emissions book which is needed for flight judging a 1972. I know if I'm judging your car that combination will be correct. September date and all. There is nothing else to do but accept the oddity of the situation. I've seen lots of these books and have never seen anything but a first, second or third edition.
