Re: 1955 distributor
Mike-- page 34 of the judging manual will tell you the whole story. It states "model 1110847 (a 1955 and 1956)passenger car distributor) appears to have been used on some later production v-8 corvettes(from about VE55S001400) and has a non-operating vacuum control (stamped 1116098) which is blank where a vacuum line would normally attach. This 1110847 distributor uses and oil tube with GITS cap and felt wick for lubrication."
You have not told us the serial number so I cannot be certain which one you need.
But-- be warned. the vacuum advance 1116098 is almost non-existant. I have been looking for one for 13 years.
If your car serial no is below 1400 it appears that the correct distributor is 1116085 with the same # vacuum advance. these can be found on e bay.- Top

Re: 1955 distributor
Just to clarify, does the dual point distributor have a hole for a vacuum advance but no vacuum advance installed? Or is it lacking a hole?
If it is lacking a hole then I would think it not correct for your car.
Theory is the non operational vacuum advance was used to plug the hole.- Top

Re: 1955 distributor
55 dint use a dual point ever but there were two different design housings , top pic is first and bottom second design , second design came in around #400?
Both used the same part number and most first design's had a date code of 1954- Top
