Wait till Spring. You certainly wouldn't want to start chipping.

That picture is from Geneva Switzerland, and there isn't a single Corvette in it or in any of the series of about a dozen pictures of the same area that are posted on the net. While Wisconsin weather sucks, it is not quite that bad. Use a search engine to see more of those pictures.

The car at the far left of the pic sure looks like a C5. Of course, under all that ice, you might find a Yugo.

At last, a subject I might know something about from experience.....over 30 winters in Montreal!! As we have had to do on occasion, just fill several of mom's pots with boiling water, dress warm and go out to the car with the first pot, and slowly pour over the drivers side door openings, repeat with four or five pots of hot water. Now open the door and start the car. Turn on defrost, defog and seat warmer to MAX. Go inside and take your shower, get dressed, make coffee, put on your coat and mits, and head for work. Hope this helps....LOL.

Richard the only colder climate that I have lived in was in Keflavik, Iceland than where I live now.
However, just two days ago could not open the door to my daily driver car (96 Monte Carlo) because the rain turned to freezing rain and the car is outside. I use a bucket of cold water to pour around the top of the drivers door and it opens easily.
Learned years ago to leave the door open if you are not going to get in right away to drive or it will refreeze if you leave it very long with the fresh water on the sealing surfaces.
I was told long ago not to use hot water because the glass can break. Cold water from the house melted the ice on the door and windshield.

I recall back in about 1972, I was staying at a Motel close to my new stateside job in Downers Grove, Illinois with my 63 Vette. Drove home (Motel) one night in the rain, and next morning it had all turned to ice. Finally got my driver's side door open, and the brakes unfroze (driving back and forth), but could never close the door. So, drove to work holding the door closed with one hand - not easy with a 4-speed. Went out at noon and finally closed and locked the door.

That's why us Canadians use hot water....the hot water softens up the weatherstripping so you can close the door. It also helps to have the heat blowing on high for a while inside the car...and you can always crack open the drivers side window a bit to help close the door without damaging anything. Don't ask me how I know this works...I try to forget those days....good thing a travel a lot in the winter months....LOL .

When I lived up north, can't now the blood has thinned and I get cold when it is less than 80 outside, I used glycern and talc on the weather stripping which usually prevented it from freezing. I kept a can of spray defroster in the car and in the house and also a can of the key hole defroster in my pocket. 'Had some East Texas ice a couple of days ago--about 1/8 inch and stayed home. 'Fed the birds and read the TDB.

Can we change the subject? This is making me cold and bringing back too many bad memories.

How about the Super Bowl tomorrow? Now that's here in Sunny Florida where the T.B. Bucs normally play. I'm going for Arizona just because the're a cooler team.

Yeah! I am going to watch it in warm and sunny Florida, on TV, and have beside me a nice cold drink, a sandwich of rye bread, cheese, and cold cuts with a little ice berg lettuce on it! 'Sorry Stu, I couldn't resist.
