    interior dye

    Sorry, I forgot one question....
As I previously mentioned, I have the 69 bright blue interior. It has been impossible to buy parts that match color even from one to the other from the same supplier. Any suggestions for interior dye suppliers that can match an existing color and produce it in spray cans or by the qt, etc.
    Thanks,
    Brad Hood

    Re: interior dye

About 2 years ago, I had a body shop make me a quart of saddle interior paint. He still had dupont at that time, which I believe was used originally to paint some of the interior pieces.

He said he still had the base paint, but once he used up his supply of colorant, that was it. You may get lucky and find a shop still having it, but its becoming less and less available.

I used there saddle for my 70 (a bit light). But as Ed has said ,if you do the whole interior you'll have the match. Prep is very important, since regardless what the maker's claim, it is really paint, and just a surface coating.

          Dennis & Ed,
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately Corvette America's dye is way off and even comes no where near their own parts colors which are some cases fairly correct. I have located a company in California that says they can match any die color. I'll let you know how it comes out. I really appreciate the help though...

I also have the 69 bright blue. I believe most of the interior is original except the seat covers and the center console/e-brake section. I tried the Corvette America spray on the console and it is way off compared to the original parts and even somewhat off the seat covers. A previous owner or the shop that restored it matched the console color pretty good but unfortunately, it didn't stick very well, hence, my experiment with the Corvette America spray. If you have better luck, I'd be interested to know.

I have had good luck in the past with SEM color coat on vinyl. I know its durable and holds up to sun fade pretty well and it sticks well so long as you use their Vinyl Prep solution to clean the surfaces first. I don't know if their product is available in custom mix tho. I'm only familiar with their couple dozen standard colors in rattle cans.

Brad, be aware that the original interiors had variations in color from part to part, i.e. seats one color, carpet another, dash different, so were door panels.
