    Repairing antenna cable 1978 Corvette

I currently have a 1978 Corvette Pace Car with a power CB antenna. The antenna motor works, but the mast does not move up or down. I want to keep the original metal body rather than replace it with a plastic-body unit. The usual fix is to replace the plastic antenna cable that connects to the mast.

I've purchased a new plastic antenna cable. The directions given are quite lacking. Although I've had the entire antenna apart, it seems impossible to insert the long metal end through the antenna body without bending it.

Anyone had any luck with this fix?

If not, does anyone know who can refurbish these antennas?

    Thanks,
    Brian

You picked the right time to ask that question Brian. Another user just asked the same question recently and sent his antenna to Matt@PalmettoRestorations.com (The Gauge Shop - an NCRS advertiser/member). I looked at the repaired unit last week and Matt did a good job on it. It runs smooth and quietly. His phone number is on page 95 of the current Driveline.

I repaired the one on my 78 Pace Car several years ago - never again! What a greasy mess...

I've pulled up "The Gauge Shop's" phone number and will give Matt a call. Thanks for the info!
