    C1 Intake Manifold Gaskets - 2 X 4

Does anyone know where I can find intake manifold gaskets that will pass judging. I don't know anyone that has the GM on the rubber tabs.

If I can't find correct gaskets, are there any difference in point deductions using the ones on my Felpro gasket kit versus buying the ones from Paragon ?

Gary Pronesti has them. He is in Florida. I don't have his number here at work. I will try and post his number this evening.

the gaskets between head and intake manifold are readily available(gary Pronesti, paragon etc) but the rubber end seals with the embossed GM logo are not currently available in repo form. to find the real mccoys, you'll need to find an old GM service replacement gasket set. good luck in searching for the ark.mike

Mike, Gary also has the end gaskets as I just spoke to him about them.

As provided to me recently, the phone number for Gary Pronesti is 32-253-1957. I have also had not issues with using the correct reproduction seals from Paragon. The tab shows as it should.

Is this the way the "GM" tab should look ?

I can't remember who posted this picture but I think these are the original configuration of the end seals. I do not know what year they are correct for, I have some end seals that are different than the seal with the complete circle but still have the GM.

                    Mark,

The rear seal tab pic you posted with the GM with serif font is exactly what was on my 1960 engine before I took it apart. The front tab had GM with no serifs and was much less pronounced.

These changed over the years and the ones I have seen on original cars always had so much grease that I couldn't tell what the GM lettering looked like.

I cut the original tabs out and reused them when I restored my car. The funny thing is that when it was judged, the judges took off points because they said the lettering was wrong! They gave the points back when I explained that they were the same tabs that came on the car!!

I heard that some seals have "large" GM fonts and some have "small" GM fonts embossed. What would be correct for different years of C1 if this is known? I have a early 59 FI (Dec 58).

                          Ian,

My suspicion is that no one knows much more about what was used for what year past tabs with GM. Of course, there were even different fonts used from front to back, so they probably varied over the years, as well. Would be a great study to do if there were enough Bowtie cars available throughout the years that didn't have the tabs covered with grease and grime.

I would not take off for any tab with GM, although some judges think they know what the font should be. If any took for for font, I think I'd have them give the points back or talk with the team leader.

"Would be a great study to do if there were enough Bowtie cars available throughout the years that didn't have the tabs covered with grease and grime."

Yep, then we'd know exactly what was used on THOSE cars! But, we wouldn't have a clue as to what might have been used on similar cars with different VIN numbers...

That's the problem/drawback to using Bowtie cars to determine factory authenticity. We're making observation(s) based on a SMALL sample of factory production and run the danger of forcing these observations to apply to all other cars built in a similar timeframe!

The process neglects multiple suppliers qualified to provide the same part that was warehoused in a common bin, running changes by GM internally that created visible part differences that weren't FIFO/LIFO inventory controlled, and the fact that variance WAS allowed on a number of parts where the AIM calls out PN XYZ followed by 'OPT PN ABC', Etc.

The only good thing about Bowtie car observation(s), is the cars come to us and ease the burden of cracking a book, reading a drawing, doing primary research in the GM drawing system and/or traveling to glimpse a wider sample size of cars with potentially 'untouched' original parts...
