    Rebuilding 56-62 front top latches

Many years ago, I replaced both hard and soft top (front) latches with new latches from Chev parts dept (still available then) because they were cracked/broken.
My original latches were the correct short handle versions and the replacement latches are now the long handle version.
The (short) handle portion of the original latches is still good.
Has anyone, or, does anyone know if it is possible, to drive out the pin between the handle and latch and install the correct short handle onto the new latch????

    Tom,
I have repaired a few of my top latches and used 1/8" roll pins in place of the rivit. They can be pressed in and function well. Be sure of your hole size before pressing them in as if the hole is small or the roll pin is large it can crack the part (I'm sure you know that). After installing the pin it can be filed or ground to length. I would guess the correct rivit is available from someone or a supply house like Grainger.
