Searching for History of my 75

I am trying to find the owners history on my car. I live in Michigan and in 1977 I purchased a 1975 Convertible in New Jersey off of E-Bay from what I thought was a private individual. The guy was actually a dealer and was turning a car that had previously been turned in? I have a copy of the title of that previous owner and the address in New Jersey. Everything is legit and is titled to me in Michigan. I am now in the middle of a doing a ground up resto on it and but I am having no luck in trying to contact the previous owner or the individual I purchased the car from. Letters to the previous owner come back "no such address". Emails to the seller (dealer) are not answered. Any ideas how I can get a car history, hopefully back to the original dealership presumably in New Jersey?

Check the fuel tank or under the carpet for a build sheet ! Any information in the owners packet that might provide some clues ??

I didn't know Al Gore was working on the internet in 1977.

My mistake...I purchased the car in 2007 not 1997.

Alger, put a notice in the Driveline, contact NJ and surrounding members, chpt. pres., local car clubs, hot rod shops, search on line for last name of previous owner in state (contact all of them asking if anyone had your car) and US---it seems as if alot of folks move, especially south, search local newspapers from the time, etc.

            Good Luck!
