    Late 54-55 seats

Why do I so often see Corvette pic's showing the seat area and the back cushion not having the de-tent for the side filler. The later back cushion frame shows the construction as seen here for it if you look closely .Have people been using the wrong frame or covers for thier year Corvette ? 55's should show this area
Left bottom pic is the right side frame. Right bottom pic is the left side and shows up better.

There are first and second design seat back frame and what you see here are the second designs.

    My covers are custom made

When in '54 did that style of seat back come into use? My '54 (3300) has 1st design seat backs.

Jim I don't know for sure but thinking when the second design soft top frame came on line in 54 (the dog leg). All late 54 and all 55 seat backs were the same.

I owned 4610 (Very late - 10th from last) and it had the 1st design seat back.

It may stay a unknown fact on 54's

Roy: You always present some pretty interesting facts, concerning the "early years" and in particular the '55. I remember when I was restoring my '55, no one was able to re-fabricate the seat bottom frames that I could find anyway. The "old Craftmen" are getting scarce, but, I found an old guy who knew the craft & made a set for me at the time. Still have a soft spot for the '55's. Thanks for the info, "always" interesting. Sam

I need to correct a previous posting about '54 seats.

I had claimed that my '54, #3300, has 1st design seat backs. Well, that's not true. I had the driver's side seat back out of the car today and it is definitely the 2nd design, as pictured in Roy's photo.

The reason I didn't see the indentation previously is that it is completely concealed when the seat frame is all the way back.
