C1/C2 - Fuel Pump Adaptor Plate Finish

In the '58-'60 JG it specifically states that the fuel pump adaptor plate be 'unpainted'. In the '65 JG, it doesn't address the matter. Can I assume that it is supposed to be painted? Can anyone address for all small blocks through the years?.....which are supposed to be painted and which unpainted?

Brad, It's my belief that the pump is installed later at St Louis so the mounting bracket and pump were not painted. I believe the mounting plate is plain steel for C2 corvettes.

ALL Corvette small blocks use a fuel pump mounting plate that was installed at St. Louis (except those 1981's that were assembled at Bowling Green and, therefore, had the plate installed there). The plate was natural steel and was not painted.

Big blocks used no fuel pump mounting plate, so there's no confusion with them.

Brad, Mr. Hinckley educated us all on this fact "if it's in the AIM then it was installed in St.Louis". Of course I forget and John always has to remind me of that. Check out the photos of the Tonawanda plant on the link posted about 2 months ago. Great photo of engines coming out of the paint shop with bare unpainted fuel pump area. Gary....
