Jerry - I went to my 66 Judging Guide (4th Edition) and it shows a part number for the AIR pump, in this case 7800308. It also says that there is a julian date stamped on it. There is no mention of a casting number.

Perhaps the 67 JG has the info you're looking for. Do you have a copy of that?

      Good luck.

        Jeff:
The pump housing on my '67 has the following raised numbers/letters on the front face:
        5696211
        CFB 2

The actual PART number for the 1967 smog pump (or, any other Corvette smog pump) appears nowhere on the pump. There are, however, several CASTING numbers on the pump.

The 5696211 is the CASTING number for the aluminum housing of the pump. I don't know if this number is unique to Corvette pumps, or not. By the way, the "CFB 2" refers to Central Foundry Bedford, the GM aluminum foundry where it was cast.

The other casting number usually found on the pump is on the cast iron rear plate. This may be the 7800308 number that was mentioned by another poster.

The 66-67 Corvette AIR pumps are unique among such pumps. They have the outlets originating at a metal "T" off of the bottom of the pump main case. No other pumps were of this configuration. All other 66-67 pumps had the outlets off fittings on the rear plate of the pump.

              Jeff -

The A.I.R. pump has a natural cast aluminum case with a 66 or 67 inside a date wheel on the front surface along with a cast Saginaw Steering Gear logo where they were built. The assembly part number (5697255) does not appear on the pump.

The cast iron rear plate is painted with black enamel and will have only one fresh air inlet pipe. The compressed air exits from the bottom of the pump through an angled two outlet connector. This configuration is unique for Corvette applications. The release pressure valve #5697396 is also on the bottom, coded black for 4 IN.HG.

An assembly date is stamped on a machined gusset of the pump body. It is a Julian date representing the day of the year, year, shift, and broadcast code; 34062P is the 340th day of 1966, second shift; 06271P is the 62nd day of 1967, first shift. The "P" broadcast code is representative of the 1967 pumps and has the unused rear adjusting bolt hole in the cast iron plate removed. The rear of the bolt channel has metal removed on an angle for a clearance with the big block upper radiator hose.

The replacement part number is 7800308. An observed example of the Julian date is; 14711P, the 147th day of 1971, first shift, broadcast code "P".
