    Is this ZL-1 for real?

Saw a post in another forum for a private collector opening up a museum in Florida. In a photo gallery of the collection is a blue '69 ZL-1.

The two ZL-1s I know of are the yellow one at Rogers Corvette Center, and the white one in Kevin Suydam's collection. My understanding is that there are only two, and of course all three claim to be one of two.

Is anyone familiar with this car? And if there are only 2, which of these three is in question?

    Jon,

The blue one you show was in a magazine article about 7-10 years ago. No paper trail, no nothing, and it was therefore "assumed" the car was a clone.

The only two I know of are the yellow one and the orange one. Note that the white one never had any paperwork show up until Chandler bought it. And like you're going to trust an IRS agent.

Orange one? That's a new one for me. Where is that one?

So there's four that claim to be one of two?

The orange one is the one that was owned by John Maher since new until about a year (?) ago.

Thanks for the info and pics, Patrick. I wasn't familiar with the orange car.

one thing more original on the orange one than the others was its the owner.

Hi all-When I had my '69 certified at Bloomington ('81)it was in the next space to the left of a purported ZL-1,(yellow).If memory serves, there was a problem with docs./block stamp, and car only received silver cert.
I remember when the car was fired up,you could hear it from the swap meet section.

I talked to John in march of 2008, He said it was sold and going to a private collector, wouldn't say who,

What is the story on the white ZL1 ?

White one has always been a controversy. Paperwork/first owner's statement suddenly appeared when Otis Chandler bought it; coincidence??
I do not think that it has ever been independently verified as a "real" one that was built as a ZL-1 by the factory.

L-88 that was changed to a ZL-1 and subsequently sold that way to the first owner? Perhaps.
