Re: How many 63 Z06s left to find?
I suppose this small tank silver/tan is still out there. Hard to see VIN -- wasn't a tanker so it didn't interest me.
Took pics in Denver CO, summer 1988. Everybody was interested in the wheels, not the car.

Wow, cool deal. So do you suppose the seller knows it is a Z06?
How many Z06s are unaccounted for?Chris Enstrom

Re: How many 63 Z06s left to find?
The car was well known in Denver. It was owned by children of the Boetcher family (local investment banking firm). The burn damage happened as a result of a fire at the warehouse in which the car was stored.
The residual of the car (as shown in the pictures posted) was sold via insurance auction and purchased by Corvettes Only, a Denver local Corvette restoration, repair and used car dealer. If memory serves, the car was sold, in whole, to a subsequent owner for complete restoration.
I further recollect the restoration was accomplished by 'splicing' on fresh, used/original, body panel components from scrap yard donor Corvettes to replace the burn damaged items.
Where is the car is today? I can't say/don't know...
There have been a couple of nice Boetcher owned classic Corvettes sold around town. The last one I remember was a silver/silver, '65 FI convertible.
It was in EXCELLENT condition and probably would have made a serious contender for Bowtie competition. BUT, the new owners were Corvette novices and shopped the car around town for 'el cheapo' restoration services doing dumb things like trading out the low mileage factory original KH KO wheels WITH their non-DOT tires intact for a set of fresh/new reproduction KO's that were visually 'pretty' to the eye!
Plus, a myriad of the car's factory original but aged parts were removed and sold off 'dirt cheap' to be replaced with fresh/new looking reproduction parts.
Yep, the NCRS route isn't for everyone and there are folks out there willing to ruin historically correct/original cars to make their 'ride' fresh/new looking!- Top

Also of the 12 or so CONVERTIBLE Z0-6's made, and no one knows for sure, ONLY one (1) has been authenicated. And that car, a black with Saddle leather, was found in 2005 and displayed at the 2006 Park City, Utah NCRS National Convention. It only had 7540 original miles on it.Over 80 Corvettes of fun ! Re: How many 63 Z06s left to find?
Chris, BOB JONES in Arizona and others have been tracking Z0-6's for years. Currently of the 69 big tank cars made 64 have been spotted. and of the 130 small tank Z0-6's made, 41 have been spotted. Now no way is this SURVEY 100% accurate. We believe, some of these cars may have been constructed.

Re: How many 63 Z06s left to find?
Burned car is owned by a fellow NCRS member who shall remain anonymous. Car was started and ran fine after the fire. The dealer had changed the brake drums and linings out due to excessive "chatter" noise and complaints by the original owner when it was till under warranty. I also say some paper work from the dealer to the Boetcher family. The original backing plates with their respective block off plates are/were still in place on all 4 corners. FWI this is also a factory tan leather seat car with black exterior. No hit body, just the left headlight had a small bracket on top to hold it open. I was the person that told Bruce at Corvette's Only after I inspected it that it was a Z06, he didn't even know what a Z06 was. And yes Jack, other people were pursuing the car not just the wheels.... Jim Blakely- Top
