    A Message From Australia

My mates and I are sitting around having a few cans and are thinking about going to the States to see a Corvette Show.
We were wondering which one would be the better one to attend.
We are into C1's and C2's if that helps and don't need to see the newer stuff.
I have never seen a top flight C1 they don't exist here yet and would love to see as many as I can dribble on. Can anyone tell me which would be the best to attend. Stewy

The National Convention in San Jose, CA would be a great place to start. Don H.

        Hi Stewy

You didn't give a time frame for your possible travels. I will provide you with a couple of California ideas, since I am in the San Diego area.

First, in late May or early June of each year (it just depends on when they set it up), there is the Annual Plastic Fantastic. It is the largest gathering of Corvettes on the west coast, hands down. There can be as many as 350 cars present, albeit many of them are newer models. But you can expect to see 20 or more C1's....everything from hot rods to NCRS TF.

If you can visit California in July this year, come to San Jose, the town I grew up in. San Jose host's this year's NCRS National Convention. Top tier cars all the way.

I'm sure a lot of other guys will chime in, but as far as California goes, we have the weather, the beaches and more!

        Hope that helps.

        Cheers!

We don't care what time of year as long as it's not snowing.
Roy I saw a great 55 54 at the adelaide meet in South Australia. One was polo white and the other was a soft metallic blue with a Jaguar doe skin colour interior. It wasn't leather but was that doe skin jag colour, really nice not far off flight condition.
I had never seen one before I was very impressed with the interior layout.

Stewy, hope you can make it mate. Summer time in U.S. is your winter time down under. The San Jose Convention will be preceded by an outstanding driving Road Tour on ole Route 66. The Road Tours are always a blast. Jim Gessner's rounding up all the vintage C1 west coast race cars he can to be at the San Jose Convention. Download the Convention information from the Driveline On-Line. Also, expect the SACC (Straight Axle Corvette Club) to have a meet close by either before or after the San Jose Convention. Roy Braatz can give you info on the SACC meet. Expect John Neas will bring his '56 SR1 to the Convention as well. Always great C1 Bowtie and Top Flight cars present at a NCRS Convention. Hope you and your mates can make it. Cheers, Gary....

Corvettes at Carlisle (Pennsylvania) in late August is a great show. It's huge, with Corvettes of every generation as well as an enormous swap/vendor area. Corvettes for sale on the grounds and an all Corvette auction. There is also a nice NCRS display. It's a 4 day party and well worth the trip in my opinion.

San Jose Convention July 12-16 and immediately following in Ventura California July 17-20. Ventura is about 270 miles south of San Jose. I know the SACC attendees are planning a ROAD TOUR down Hwy #1 and 101 which is one of the best roads in America. Maybe the world. Call your Australian mate John Piovesan who owns GM Downunder (www.gmdownunder.com). He will be doing both as well.

John Neas plans to bring his Copper SR-1. It is one of 6 made and only 2 have been found. He plans to road tour the car with wife Sally to the SACC Convention.

Gary we need to talk about the RACE CAR SEMINAR.

If you have a little more time to spend, I would come to Detroit (actually the suburbs just north of the city) in late August for the Dream Cruise and then go the following weekend to Carlisle. At the Dream Cruise you will see somewhere in the neighborhood of 50,000 old cars of every type with huge numbers of Corvettes. The Michigan chapter has a large gathering of fine examples of every generation including C1's. Just let us know when you are arriving and we'll show you a good time! Then go off to PA the next weekend for Carlisle. Can't think of a better way to spend some time in the USA.

Let's not forget about the Regional At Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina, in April with track laps.

Stewart-- If I had only one corvette meet to attend. It would have to be corvettes at Carlysle. It will have 40-50 k people there over the four days and 5000 corvettes. It has swap meets, auctions , for sale coral. vendors. displays etc etc.It is the biggest. I have not been to Bloomongton but I have heard it is not as big as carlyle. I may have spelled Carlysle incorrectly but others have written of it also. I have a top flite 55 and Roy Braatz on this board is the expert.

Have fun and enjoy wherever I have been down under and had a fabulous time even if you do drive on the wrong side of the road.
