    Restoring Air Cleaner Lid - 68 427/390

I have the original Chrome Air Cleaning Lid for my 68, but there pitting on the top portion of the lid being 40 years old. My question is if I have the lid re-chromed is the company or kit that can redo the silt screening on the underside of the lid. I want to make sure it is done properly so I do lose any points when I have the car judged. I am open for suggestion so any advise is welcome, I just do not want to do the wrong thing. I see that Paragon sell a chrome lid for my car and it even has a GM part number with it. Does anyone has any advise on this unit they sale. I am curious because by the time I redo my lid and have it silt screened does it make dollar sense to buy the one paragon represents as a GM unit or is the one they sale not really correct. Any advise is appreciated. Jeff

I suggest you contact Richard Fortier about the re-chroming and redoing the sllk screen. Richard is the most knowledgeable person I know on this restoration process. Richard advertises in the Driveline.

Richard Fortier should be able to tell you in great detail the difference between the Paragon silk screen and his current one. He founded Paragon and developed the one used by Paragon during his tenure there, many years ago (probably using technology not as good as what he currently uses).

I did talk to Richard yesterday for some time regarding the difference between what paragon sells even though paragons list a GM part # and an restoring my original air cleaner lid. Richard was very honest and said that the one that paragon sells is cut with the proper tools but the chrome finish and silt screening is not correct. A chapter level leveling judge meet it may not get picked up but when the car is brought to a regional meet most likely the judges will pick up the differences. It is not a cheat thing to get done with him vs buying one from paragon but I am going to ship mine to him on Monday for get it done properly. Thanks again for the help
