Fuel Tank Baffles or no baffles?

I need to replace the fuel tank in my '59. What are the advantages/disadvantages of going with the '61-'62 tank with baffles?

I might be wrong but think the 59 has them, helps keep the gas from spilling out the cap

Roy, I was looking in the Paragon catalog and they show M1957-E61 vented w/o baffles and L1961-62 vented w/baffles.

I said I might be wrong but that's what I think! Paragon must be correct

          Disadvantages? I don't know.

Advantages? Well, during heavy cornering, the baffles will slow down the shifting of 50 - 60 lbs of fuel. If you are at the limits of adhesion, slowing fuel slosh will make it less likely you will exceed those limits and spin. Might be important if you are racing.

Fuel Tank Baffles or no baffles?

            Gentlemen:

On this subject, I have owned 4 - RPO 488 1962 24 gallon tank Corvettes. I have also talked with an NCRS member/friend who owns a '61 24 gallon tank car who took the tank apart and "reglassed" it and put it back together.

This leads to my question: Are these tanks baffled? My friend could not recall - "NCRS" strikes again.

Remain curious about this. Guess I could cut one in half and answer the question, but have balked at this thought so far.

            Thanks, Best, Dennis

Can't you just pull the fuel sender and look inside to see if there are baffles?

For what its worth, my 63 tank has no baffles. So baffles were 62 only? That doesn't make sense.

At first I was thinking Roy was onto something and the baffles started way back in 56 or so along with the revised fuel filler neck. I was thinking those were improvements over the 53-55 set up. Just guessing though.

The tank that came with the car has baffles but needs to be replaced. It hasn't had gas in it for 20 years and has a bit of a corrosion problem. When looking for a repro I noticed the "correct" tank for a '59 doesn't have baffles. The '61/'62 tanks do. The tank being undercover it really doesn't make any difference which I use. I just thought the baffled tank probably made more sense but finding nothing in the archives I possed the question.
