1968 Door Upper Hinge Covers: What Color?

I need help in determining the color of the upper hinge cover plates on the
inner door that cover the door attachment bolts. Are they supposed to
be the same as the body color?

This cover is P/N 3919667-8 and sticks out from behind the door panel,
so it can be seen when you open the door.

Was this cover attached after the car was painted? Right now it is black
with the body color (blue) underneath it.

The early 1968s had this panel painted body color. The blackout on them started later, but off the top of my head I can't remember if it was late 1968 or early 1969 for the start of the blackout. I would bet the 1968-69 TIM&JG has the answer, but I don't carry that to work with me.

It might be helpful if you told us the approximate build date of your car. Someone might know the change point from memory or experience.

The hinge cover should be painted body color. It was already installed on the car when it was painted.

As Terry says they started to blackout this area late in the 68 model year so the body color would not show through to the inside of the car. The judging guide makes no mention of exactly when it started. My April built car does not have it. Original factory blackout would cover the entire door jam area and not just the cover.

That early -- body color. Someone thought black would up-date the look.
