    '53 Memoribilia

This is really off topic for me since I really haven't paid much attention to brochures and the like but I believe I've acquired an original 53 Corvette sales brochure. I've attached photos of the brochure and would like some feedback.

    Thanks...

I do not know much about C1's, but it looks like a real brochure. Regardless, it is a super nice item to have. I am sure other members may help you more, but that's a cool piece. Regards. ARA

        Frank,
Roy is right on. Repros are fairly common but originals are not. If you hold a repro next to an original you can tell fairly easily. It will be especially obvious on the interior photo. Originals are very clear and the detail is quite amazing.
In addition to the Turquoise Brochure there is a second 53 Sales brochure. It is a gold/grey fold open piece that has The Thrilling New Chevrolet Corvette on the cover.
Hey Roy.......Do you know how many Sales Brochures there were in 1955 and what colors they were.????

I got my '53 brochure, a repro, in '71. They have been repro'd for along time.

              Roy,
There were two of the same Brochure. One Green and one Orange. If my memory serves me right the orange is the scarce one although both in original condition are pretty scarce. Beware of reproductions on these too.

                Steven,
There are many reproductions of these early Brochures (and others also) that have the original dates on them.

Yes Dave, like the early run of SS brochures in the early 70's. 'Gotta be careful as I have seen a number of them advertised as original that are repros. Price lists are the same, except most of those repros are nothing more than copies. I was fortunate in that I got most of mine from the dealer each year. My favorite is my 1957 with New York Auto Show and AMA stamps on it. 'Got it almost 40 years ago.

                    Dave...
Thanks for the input. If I look at the interior picture the shifter is really clear as well as the pleating of the seats. The facial detail of the two women looking backwards is also really clear. With these being repro'd for so long, is there any other way to tell if it's an original or not?
My source of these was from a very old friend of mine that passed away last year and now I have his collection. He collected these brochures ever since he was a kid.I have what looks to be even an original '55 up through 90. He was a member of NCRS with a number in the 1200's. That being said, the collection is priceless to me whether they're repro'd or not.
However, since I knew his habits and I did compare my repro'd '66 to his original, you can definitely tell my '66 was a repop. The paper feels different and the colors have more contrast than his original. There are other subtleties but that's why I think the '53 just may be original. I'm just curious as to what I have.

                    Thanks...

                      Frank,
I am reluctant to render an opinion based on a photo but it sounds like you are looking at the right stuff. As I mentioned the clarity of the photos is the key. I looked at mine and the interior photo was very clear and detailed.

Frank, as Strickland points out - photo sharpness and distinction such as carpet weave and brake pedal visibility are tell tale signs of an original versus a repop. Gary....

Frank, bring it to Concord in April. I guarantee that there will be a couple of people that can give you a definite answer.
