    09 Convention $$$

Who said this hobby is cheap , going to a Convention isn't

    Registration $125.00??
    Judging flight $275.00?????
    Dinner for two $120.00
    Swap meet $500.00???????????????
    T shirt $ hat $36.00
    Park a trailer $100.00
And if you take in tours can run $300,00 to $400.00 more
    Now hotel $200.00 a night, gas ? $200,00 & food $ 600.00
Round if off at $3,000.00 or more for Ca. guys, this cost more then my first three Corvettes.
You guys coming from back East need to take out a loan.

I'm I just being cheap with todays economy and I thought I might make a buck selling parts but $500.00 for a space.

Roy, when you live in a high rent district (Bay Area), ya gotta pay the fare.

The costs associated with putting on an indoor (which everyone seems to want) convention have climbed astronomically. The budget for the 2010 convention is over 2 1/2 times what the 2000 convention was.

BUT, you look at the costs of the other major venues, Chicago, Bloomington, our convention is still very reasonable

Why dose it have to be in a high rent district. 500.00 for a swap spot. I know that NCRS is been to Barrett-Jackson but this is crazy. There are a
lot of places not in big citys that could host a national meet.

I was thinking of entering a couple Corvettes and do the swap meet selling parts to help pay the cost .Now I think I'll pay the $125.00 to see the Corvettes and old friends and look for a Motel out of town and eat at Burger King.

That's more than spending 2 weeks on Maui. I guess that's why I go there every year instead.

I think NO ONE will go and people will wait for Charlotte in 2010

I know for sure I AM going to wait !!!!

Those prices in an economy where people are out of work and can barely keep the lights and heat on -
                  are VERY rediculous!

Just have it at the Golden gate state park - would cost ZIPPO!

Well I'm really going to try and make it but only because I work for an airline and I can stay at a friends place in San Mateo. I realize that the event was probably planned when the economy was still good so the costs probably weren't looked at too closely.

I realize that most would prefer to show their cars inside to protect them from any possible storms but at this time of year there is a better chance of an earthquake than even a light sprinkle. Come to think of it I'd rather have my car outside because rains wipes off.....buildings don't.

Roy are you sure that the swap meet stalls are $500???? That can't be right.

I wonder what Goodguys charge for their swap meet stalls at the Pleasanton meets? Maybe the Alameda Fairgounds would have been a suitable choice as well...

I plan on bringing both '71's to the National. I guess I need to call Bob Grauer and find out if cars registered for the Sportsman category get to park with all the other cars?

It looks like $125 registration, $120 sportsman fees, $60 banquet fee. I think that will do it for me. I am definitely looking forward to talking with old friends like Terry, Drew, Stan, Chuck, the whole gang of early C3 lovers.

                            I'll be there Warren.

I'm looking forward to the Road Tour also -- at almost two weeks on the road, most of it Route 66, for me it will be another dream trip. I expect it to be right up there with the Hwy 101/1 trip to Monterey. It might even be better, since this time I will be doing the trip in a Corvette.

From having sat in numerous board meetings, I know the issue of expense is always looked at and seriously considered. One has to consider that the size of the event, expected number of cars and participants, often limits the choices of venues. As has been said, many folks bringing cars don't want to display them outside for a whole variety of reasons. I think the days of displaying Corvettes on dusty fairgrounds ended when we stopped thinking of them as used cars.

I don't know what the Sportsman facilities will be at the 2009 Convention, but it is not unusual for the Sportsman cars to be outside. Many are the only means of transportation for the participants (that will be my situation) and so they must be available for their use at any time. Inside parking limits and complicates that access.
