So, one of the most difficult part of detailing these old Vettes (IMO) is how best to clean the white walls.

I use Wesleys Bleach white, how do you guys clean them?

You got to be careful using Brillo pads, it ain't white all the way through. Bill.

I always like to start with a bucket of hot water and Dawn, then use the bleach white.

FYI White walls and raised white letters are made by compounding rubber with anatase titanium diodide (TiO2) (which I sell to support this crazy hobby). Paint is made with rutile titanium dioxide (both are white powders). The difference is that anatase is a very poor grade of TiO2 and chalks when exposed to sunlight and weather. Whitewalls were designed to be self cleaning but it reality, it does not work that way very well. The white on most tires is at least 1/8 - 1/4 inch thick. Bleach works but can cause othe issues. Brillo pads can leave a blue residue. Best method in my opinion is elbow grease, a good brush, and a soap such as Dawn.

I sometimes use a rag with bleach white on it as to not get my original KO's wet. The PIA is cleaning the KO's. After I clean the whitewalls, i also wipe the whitewalls with H2O to neutralize the bleach.
