    Decoding the starter nrs.

    Hi,

Doing a step by step body off on my 65 at the moment. The last time I could work on it I put the engine on a stand and started to clean it up. First thing was the starter which was on my engine.

Acc to the 65 judging manual i should have model nr 1107352, but I found the following:
    1107201
    1D18

for which model car is this started?
does the 1D18 stand for 1971, April, 18th?

    Pic of starter is below

    Thanks
    Michael Westenberg

I would guess the date is 1961---1107242 and 1107233 are 62-era starters. Sequentially, obviously, yours would be a model that predates those.

I did a Google and guess what, you have a rebuilt starter for a 1959 to 1963 AMC American. When these were rebuilt the guts had no resemblance to what was originally there. I am surprised that it started your 396.
