    Judgeing Queation

I need to know if you lose any points by not having the front license baracket on the car? I have the original, it's just not installed. Thanks, Bill.

    Bill -

Yes, the judges will expect to see the bracket installed; it was there when the car left St. Louis.

If the car was delivered in a one plate state then it would be in the car, and it better be there for judging. 6 pt deduction if not, I know.

I don't agree. St. Louis had no clue in 1967 or earlier whether the state the car was going to required a front plate or not, so they installed the bracket on every car, no exceptions - that's why it shows as base equipment in UPC 14 in the Assembly Manual.

Later in the C3 era, there was a scheduling option (VK3) that determined whether or not a car got a front plate bracket or not.

And be sure that the bracket is not the '63-5 type, with the small(er) square holes at the four corners (highly unlikely, but check anyway, as it will be all the more evident without a licence plate).

John -- I'd assume that 1972 MY was earlier than VK3. Here's a shot (taken in Spring 1972, at a truck stop about an hour east of St.Louis, on Hwy 50). 2nd thumbnail is of a closeup [with dark areas lightened] showing the licence plate bracket in place, as you've said for C2's.

The orange LT-1, bound for a Beckly W.Va dealer, was VIN 24001, so that'll give a closer indication of the timeframe.

                Bill,

Also, make sure you have the license plate frames in place.. you know those stainless steel surrounds which supposedly came with the car when new. Not having them cost me a couple of points (on my 1965) my last outing.

                  Good point, Wayne.
Judges do check the back of the bracket for the proper holes and nylon retainers.
