Where can I get a complete inventory of exactly what I'm suppose to have? I've never even seen one put together on a car so I have no idea what I need to order. I have all the major pieces, Dist shield two brackets & two vwrt shields, the one right hand and two left hand shields, the four heat shields and two v shields. I pretty much just need the grommets and nuts but I don't know how many.

Re: Early '63 (Dec. 62) ignition shielding...
I bought my shielding from Long Island Corvette and used their catalog discription to help me install it. You can look at the catalog on line at their web site. It shows all the parts and there locations. The first time I did this it took a lot of time. Keep in mind the number 1,3 and 2,4 plug wires run through the lower sheilding and actually go behind the engine mounts. There are some tricks to get the wire in withoput removing the mounts. Pull the boot back and feed the wire then the boot.- Top

Re: Early '63 (Dec. 62) ignition shielding...
There was a great article in the Restorer on '63-67 Ignition Shields. Spring '86 Vol. 12, Issue 4, Page 6. It's 13 pages long with diagrams, part numbers and photos. Written by John Amgwert.

Re: Early '63 (Dec. 62) ignition shielding...
Irby, Expect to get dinged at the shows if you run all repro shielding parts.
Especially watch out for the passenger side one piece horizontal shield as some of the repros are incorrect.
My 63 FI car got a ding from a certain Quack MD in MD on this horizontal shield. There is supposed to be a reinforcement on the inside that is tack welded in. I bought the real deal on ebay and now have to find a plater than can put some GM type plating on it instead of show chrome. John D.- Top

Re: Early '63 (Dec. 62) ignition shielding...
My original R.H. (passenger) side is still with me, though it's been through hell. The first time I took it off back in 63 I didn't know the trick and bent it to get it out. It also had some battery acid spill on it and it has some dull stains. It's got it's battle scars, but still looks decent and I'd hate to replate it either as it wouldn't look right.

Re: Early '63 (Dec. 62) ignition shielding...
Stuart, are you talking about the RH lower shield? The one I have is a long single piece instead of the two smaller pieces as on the LH side. The one I have is chrome plated. Is that correct?
Kenneth, hopefully it's on my restorer cd I got from the NRCS store. I'll check.- Top

Re: Early '63 (Dec. 62) ignition shielding...
Irby,
Keep in mind on a December build 63 the R/H (passenger) lower spark plug wire bracket is different than later 63 up cars. Bracket is made with four slots in a row, not two front and two back.
Check archives as there may be a picture.- Top

Re: Early '63 (Dec. 62) ignition shielding...
Irby;
Yes, the R.H. piece is the one piece shield and, as such, presents a problem for removal. In the days when I had points, taking it off or leaving it off was the norm as I had to change plugs so often. Now with electronic ignition, I rarely have to take it off so I have to re-learn my old method.
Even though the drawings for some of these parts specify being made from either SS or chromed steel, most that I have seen are as follows;
2 - L.H. Plug Cover Sections: Stainless Steel
1 - One Piece R.H. Plug Cover section (63 only): Chrome Plated Steel
1 - Top Distributor Shield: Stainless Steel
2 - Drop Sections, L.H. & R.H. (Top Shield to Plug Shields): Both Chrome Plated Steel
Others may have some different ones, but all I've seen are as described above - including mine.
