    Head Light Motor Housing /steel 1966 C2

Question ! This may be over kill but I am wanting it to be right. I have removed my front head light motors and want to rebuild them. When I removed them the steel part of the housing seemed to me to be a natural color (light steel color) . Is there a standard or recommended color. As they have sat on my bench they have begun to get surface rust. Help!

I had a Corvette Christmas and Santa broght me the Noland Adams restoration vol#2 book and I got another restoration book but I haven't found any mention of the head light motors.

    David,

My originals had a light film of rust when removed and appeared to have been basically natural steel with (perhaps) some kind of thin anti-corrosive film like you find on common nails etc. Another motor I purchased as a spare was painted gloss black, but the runny quality of the paint job leads me to believe it was an owner-added coating.

      David,

The original headlight motors from day one were bare steel but on day two they rusted. Most rebuilders glass bead and apply a flat clear to keep them from rusting on day two. NO black paint!

Joe, Thank you again for the information. I had thought about tring that but was not sure what the out come might be. Do you know if the same process would work for rear axle parts that are suppose to be natural?
