    69 Washer Pump

I'm down to my last non-operating item to fix. My washer pump has a crack in the cylinder extending from one of the valve assembly cap screw holes to about half way down the cylinder. I have three options.

    1. Try to repair the crack.
    2. Replace the washer assembly with a BLACK replacement because I can't find a correct WHITE replacement.
    3. Replace the cylinder with a WHITE replacement from another GM vehicle.

Why the correct white plastic is not being used for the replacement part is beyond me but I guess there must be a reason. I have found a white pump at a Camaro parts supplier to fit 67-69. Since the 69 Camaro also had headlamp washers I thought that the cylinder for this pump may be adaptable to my washer assembly.

Does anyone have any info or insight on repair or replacement of these washer pump cylinders? I have heard that the pump cylinders for units with headlamp washers were higher volume than other units. Is this true?

Here's a photo of the Camaro part available for $70.

That's because plastic technology has come a LONG way from what it was in 50's and 60's rendering the original material obsolete. The off-white material was prone to discoloration in the face of heat + UV and it naturally turned amber/brown as it aged.

What's used today is typically a form of injection moldable nylon that's either snow white in color or black. This is simply a fact of life (modern replacement parts are visually different from their factory original cousins) that restorers live with as a 'challenge' in the game of restoration/preservation!

        Hi Michael,
In an article for THE CORVETTE RESTORER, Bob Cook relates that he was able to use 'PLASTRUCT' liquid plastic solvent, from the hobby shop, to repair the plastic pump piston in his washer pump.
Wouldn't it be great if it would work on your cylinder too?
        Regards,
        Alan

Corvette, 90 degree 3 port head, drilled for anti-drip valve.

I just purchased this white washer pump from Melrose T-Tops for $97 plus shipping. Thanks Dennis, I've been looking for years.

He's a really nice guy. I met him at Carlisle a few years back. I had an original 70 5 port I had picked up. He told me he was repop'in them. Wasn't in his catalog yet. I believe his are what's out there the venders sell now.We talked for quite awhile. Hope it works out for you. Some pics of an original 5 port never used.
