"Matching Numbers" Stamp Pad From Ebay Listing

This photo was provided in a Ebay listing for a '66 427/390. The car is described as having "Matching Numbers." What do you guys think? It looks like a matching numbers pad to me...

      Jason,
I am no expert by any means, but I can say with some certainty that the block is a restamp. Original broach marks are straight and run 90 degrees to the pad. Circular marks indicate the block has been decked. Other numbers you see are remenents from the original stamping. There are many other people on this site who know far more about this then I. I am sure they will tell you the same.

Well the numbers do match what possibly would have been on an original engine pad, so yes it is 'matching numbers'

Doesn't the "L" look like it was added later. The size is different and it's twisted a little.

I may be wrong, buy I think I can see another stamp that wasn't completely removed under the IL. I haven't seen this before.

Something looks funny to me, if someone could post a pic. from their 66, I think a conclusion could be made. Steve

First thing that came to my mind was a factory grindout and re-stamp, with a later re-build and deck message. JMHO.

I agree with John, it is a circular motion made by a machine and not your sandpaper hand job. There seems an IP stamped under the L which the L is crooked. I don't think it is numbers match from the factory but numbers match after decking and so on.

I'm sure it was the ultra rare "ID10T" COPO option.

Seems plausible, what do you guys think?

For me, its a far cry from what would make me comfortable.
