I Believe my starter bendix drive needs to be replaced. Does any one know the correct delco part number for the bendix? Is it the same on all starters of that era? Both small block and biig block?

The starter drive was the same for big blocks and small blocks, 12-3/4" flywheels or 14" flywheel. However, the part number changed over the years.
The original starter drive for your application was GM #1965723. The last part number I have for it is is GM #10470757, but it's discontinued and I can't find a new number. In any event, this piece is easily available in the aftermarket and, likely, manufactured by the same source that made them for GM.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 67 starter bendix drive number
Joe,
I have no desire to drag this off topic, but since John got his answer --
I seem to remember that there was at one time a HD Bendix unit with more pawls (if that is the right word) in it. I used to labor under the impression that the unit for the big block was the HD unit, and the one with the lesser number of pawls was for mouse motors. Of course there is the possibility that I am lost in the fog of the "good ol' days." Can you clarify my recollection, or is it all a hallucination?Terry- Top

Once-upon-a-time, there were 2 different part numbers for Corvette starter drives. During the 1966-69 period, GM says a different starter drive was used for L-36 and L-68 big blocks as opposed to all other Corvette applications. Curiously, the starter drive for the big block applications was slightly less expensive than the one for all other applications which implies that it was a "lesser" piece. However, that drive was discontinued in March, 1970 and replaced by the same drive that was used for all other Corvette applications.
I don't know what the difference was between the 2 drives. However, I have NOS examples of both here so, when I get a chance, I'll see if I can determine the difference. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
