Is it possible to salvage the silk screening when having the top rechromed? I wouldn't think so.

Re: '63 Air Cleaner Lid Restoration...
I had Paragon restore an air cleaner lid. They outsource the chrome and silk screening. They did do a nice job. However, the silk screening is not identical to the original and may get a deduction. It also took months to get it back. You will lose the original silk screening during rechrome.- Top

Re: '63 Air Cleaner Lid Restoration...
Irby, it's a toss up.
I have seen where a Paragon repro looses the same amount of points as an original that has peeling chrome and a dent. On the Paragon you loose points on originality and on the original you loose essentially the same amount of points for condition.
I just bought a repro for everyday use and use the original for judging. I think the repro is less expansive then having the original restored and as you have heard the restoration may not be perfect.

Re: '63 Air Cleaner Lid Restoration...
Sorry, let me rephrase what I said. I had Pauls Chrome do my lid, and Paragon slik screen it. I know it is not close to original, but no one else is doing it. I figured something is better than nothing. Where else can you go?- Top

Air Cleaner Lid Restoration; Contact Richard Fortier
All,
Richard Fortier has recently obtained much improved silk screen templates for many of the C2 and C3 air cleaner lids. Some of his handiwork is starting to be judged and I believe these new silk screen do not receive any deducts. Richard advertises in the Driveline, so you can find his contact information there. You do not need to rely on obviously incorrect silk screens from Paragon.

Re: '63 Air Cleaner Lid Restoration...
If only it was just the lid I had to worry about on my original. From day one it started peeling chrome from the base (housing), and I've been hand assisting ever since to keep it from being ingested. My top isn't bad except for a few acid drip spots (I hate that when it happens). At least it's not pitted and the silk screen is still readable.

Air Cleaner Lid Restoration; chrome replating
Stu,
I believe Richard Fortier also has a plater who can redo the chrome similar to how it was done by GM, i.e., not overly restored show chrome, but closer to flash chrome. I don't have any more specifics than that.
