Steve, you might try some of the literature sales guys, McClellands (sp?) in Texas or Walt Miller (autolit.com) in NY as they sometimes have original color chips. I used to have a dozen or so color chips, about 1" X 2", I got from the Chevy dealer when I was a kid. The originals, as I remember, have the color name printed in black on the back of the chip. The color chips I got was 1962 Honduras Maroon. I have looked all over tonight and I can't find them (too many moves). If I come across them I will send you one.

        Steve,

Yes, I hate it too when people hijack threads.

If you are asking whether NCRS has an organised system to evaluate paint samples, the answer is no. There's only a small minority of members who read and post on this board so you may not get too many responses.

I think the answer from Jack H about consulting the team leader is your best bet.

Find a old bodyshop in your town and ask to look at an old chip book .I wouldnt be worried about the color as much as the metallic . It should be so fine you can barely see it.

Steve, I am an old body shop out of your town, after looking at my 9/1960 ditzler color pt. book. The ERMINE WHITE has ditzler part #DDL-8259, and HONDURAS MAROON POLY. #DDL-50568. 3/4" x 3" chips would be available to you as loaner if necessary. Steve

Also these original chip pages often pop-up at e-Bay. I've been able to buy them for most of my cars...

              greetings,

Most, if not all, of the paint book chips are ink printed on paper. Any resemblance in the shade of the color between those chips and the actual paint put on the car at the factory is an accident.

There were paint cards used at the factory -- about 4 x 7-inches and stored in an envelope with the date and formula printed on it. Those are paint on stock designed for painting. If one can find one of those there is a better chance of accuracy -- but then we can beat the dead horse of storage deterioration and yada, yada, yada. These larger cards were the standards used to maintain consistency at the factory, and short of an original paint car, are probably the most accurate reflection of what was put on the car.

Steve This color I think is the hardest to duplicate, All I see have a brown tint to it. I love this color and there was a car at Bloomington two years ago that was dead on. I talked to the owner and was told it took him 38 tries to get the color right. He told me he would send me the formula but never did. Good Luck.

Thanks for all of your help. I am thinking its going to be in the hands of whoever judges the car .my metalic is very fine and i do have a couple of small flakes of paint that was under ths door lock cyinders that i razor bladed off and transferd to masking tape but it is more rich in color than what i got from the resteration shop .I have all ready gone to the paint supplyers and body shops and did find a couple of printed samples (faded)there is some one that did step up and offer there opnion that seems to have some experiance in this matter. So hears to not parking your car to close to another one the same color and simply try to do your best
