I recently purchased a set of repro Bolt On wheels for my car. They're actually pretty nice. I am sure some of you out there have opinions on radials versus bias ply. I really like the look of the original-styled bias plys, and don't mind how they ride as I have a set on my convertible. However, I am concerned about driving at speed with the set of red line bias plys on the bolt ons. Any thoughts, prior experiences, commentaries etc?

I included a link to the last discussion. Hope this helps, Ridge.

I personally like the bias look on my 68. You just have to be a little more attentive while driving on poor asphalt roads. and also endure the tire warm-up process to eliminate the flat spots caused by the car sitting between drives.Jack Corso

Re: Redlines, bias ply or radials
Ara
I have biased ply tires on 2 of my mid years and i love them. I even had them on my 65 396 car (which i stupidly sold). I love the look and they seem to handle fine. as long as you are not road racing go for them.

Re: Redlines, bias ply or radials
I've always been hardcore about running the correct tires on my vintage cars. You get used to the feel of them and I believe the production methods used to produce them today is far safer than when originally produced.
I did however, opt for the Redline radials on my current 69 Vette, and immediately after putting them on, wished I had purchased the Bias Plies.
The Bias Plies tires date the car and give them a vintage look that can't be matched with the radials. That skinny flat tread profile can't be missed.
If your running an otherwise totally stock car down to the hose clamps and bolt markings, it's a pretty large detail to overlook.
I'd save the Speed rated Radials for a Resto-Mod souped up with performance goodies, otherwise under the type of driving conditions normally seen with a correctly restored pampered Show Car, I don't think there's any negative impact with performance or safety running Bias Plies.
It just boils down to personal preferance and opinion.- Top

Re: Redlines, bias ply or radials
Once again, thank for all of you who replied. Appreciate the insight. I really do love the look of the bias plys, and to answer one of the members inquiry about my car- it is a "correct car" down to the clamps, etc so I am really leaning towards the bias plys. Thanks again for all the replies and commentaries. ARA- Top
