    95 dead battery

I am new to NCRS and also new to owning a Corvette, and this is my first post. I found my battery dead in my 95 corveete today. After hooking up charger, I can not seem to get charger to charge battery. Is ther some "trick" to charging a dead battery? thanks for any and all help.

It may be time to replace the battery. It probably won't take a charge.

To insure that failure to charge is not due to conductivity being lost between terminals and cable ends, remove the cables and attach charger leads directly to battery terminals.

I agree with Paul...your battery has probably "passed on" . Beginning with the C4s, Corvettes became difficult automotive duty for batteries.

William welcome to the NCRS and the discussion board. Since you are a new owner of a Corvette, you may not use it for daily driving. A 95 Corvette just sitting in the garage for weeks without being driven will eventually have enough consistant parasitic drain on the battery that the battery life could be effected.
Anyway you will have some fun learning how to remove the battery. It is really easy with just a few hand tools. The body piece in front of the battery has to be removed.
It is easy. Remove the 10 mm bolt the top rear of this panel partially obscured by weatherstripping.
Remove the 5 torx head screws that secure the panel and the fenderwell together. These are the 5 torx head screws between the fender panel and the front tire.
One more bolt, 10MM like the top one. It is at the bottom of the panel.
To avoid scratching/chipping the paint of the lower valance panel and the above panel it is best to remove some screws so the lower valance panel can droop and allow unobstucted access to the bottom 10mm blolt. It does not have to be removed, only loosened enough to allow the panel to be removed.
The lower valance panel has several chrome torx head screws visible when you open your drivers door. Remove about three of these.
Remove about 3-4 of the 1/4 inch headed screws on the lower area of the valance panel. This should allow the valance panel to droop for access to the lower retaining 10mm bolt of the panel.
The panels lower attacting point is open on the backside which will allow the panel to slip out at the bottom after the 10mm bolt is loosened. (Earlier C4's required the bolt to be removed to remove the panel, no slot cut)
Disconnect the neg and positive battery cables and remove the battery hold down at the back side of the battery and the battery will come out.
Then you get to do some panel alignment experience when you install it.
Seems like a lot of work just to remove a battery. Once you have done it about 4 times you can write something like this from memory.
Battery tenders are available from advertisers in the NCRS Driveline that will keep your 95's battery fully charged when it is not used.

Wow, current drain in a C-4 is a bit of an understatement!!!!! Just letting them sit in the garage for a few days will suck out most of the energy in a new battery.

If your battery is original in your 95 it should be bronzed and kept in a cherished place in the den.

In 92 GM changed to a much larger alternator. Before that the 95 amp alternator worked hard just to recharge the battery every time it sat overnight. Thank the Lord for that gear reduction starter!

Get the best battery you can find with the most CCA's and your lucky for it to last 3 years.

Bill, can you tell if the battery is the original or a replacement?

The original battery is a Delco Freedom Battery series 655. That is on the decal on the top left hand side.

If it is an original and you want to get rid of it let me know, I would be interested in buying it from you. I have a 95 also and was looking for a battery, dead or alive.

After you put a new battery in it, keep a "Battery Minder" on it when the car's sitting in the garage.
