68 door hinge shims and bolts

Earlier today Rob and I removed the doors from my 68 Coupe (originally bronze but received red repaint in the past). In relation to the door hinge shims; is this typical (eg the shims, as far as I can judge, are silver colored but received some green primer)? I guess it is typical that the shims will receive some body color as the car was painted with the doors installed or....?

Also, there is some white-ish putty around the door hinge bolts - is this typical or somebody's own creation? And what's the purpose of this putty?

    Thanks as always,
    Erik

Erik, what you see there was typical of my early 69 as well.

If I remember right the shims were zinc plated and then installed against a not fully dried green primer on the bird cage. This would allow the primer to transfer to the shims so I'll bet that the only place that you will find green primer on these shims is on the ones that were next to the bird cage.

I don't know what the white putty was for except maybe to keep moisture out of the bolt hole slots. My 69 also had this white putty.
