    Re: How was it assembled?

    Hi Bruce,
Not much danger of me being one of the guys......shoot me if I do.
Thank you for the condolences....it's been 4 years. Long enough to be history.
I swear he died just to get out of all the work.
And just when he had me finally trained to pound nails and shut up, when I was being his slave labor.
I like the idea of the 'squawk sheet'.....it's pretty much how I have my work journal set up. It will include the problem, how it was fixed, cost, photos and anything else I can think of.
Mainly because I don't plan on this being my first and last restoration.
Definitely, I appreciate the encouragement from members.....this really would not stand a chance (or be nearly as much fun) without everyone's input.
    Cheers, Sandy

I appreciate what everyone is saying about body-off......something I would truly like to do.

Balance that with wanting to start some work on this car.....anything.
Problems involved now are living in a place that is in no way set up to work on cars.....no garage or shop and no room to build one.
I will be putting in a concrete-floored carport this summer and using my storage shed to store tools, compressor and stuff.

So as I see it, I must sell a piece of real estate first (for car working capital), find or have built another place and then proceed with car.
And finish the work on this house....late husband was a mechanic and general contractor, and this place was supposed to be a resale house. He died before the major remodel was completed.

I know how to finish the sheet rocking and some wiring, rebuild porch, lay flooring, etc.....I just finished the deck last year.
And still keep my business afloat.

So you can see this isn't very straight forward.
I just want to get the car on the road and have some fun with it.
Or maybe take up serious drinking. (Just kidding, I think.)

But I do have some things to think about with proceeding on the car and that's good.

I am journeling all of this, and would be interested in gathering enough material for some sort of publication.
I'm currently gathering ideas for two books, that I will also illustrate......one a book for physically challenged children, based on the adventures of my handicapped kitten, and another on the strength and courage of the women of the west, mainly aimed at widows, young women or anyone needing some encouragement to try new things, be all you can be, etc. (Sounds like I'm recruiting for the military, sort of.)

We will talk about your book idea some time......feel free to e-mail me.
      Best, Sandy
      Sandy, an aside, but an interesting one on no room to work;

Was in a car club in SE Indiana. One of the guys decided to do a complete body-off on his Triumph GT6. Small things were done in the kitched (rebuild engine, trans, diff, etc.) and the remainder under a tree in the back yard, including paint in a makeshift plastic tent, even in the winter. It turned out very well.

Second involved a friend while living in Indianapolis, an MGA guy. Did a body there off on at least three cars. Garage had cars parked in it and one hanging from the ceiling! He disassembled them, cleaned parts in the driveway and took them to his basement family room, including the frame and individual body parts. When I first saw his family room all I could do was smile---I loved it! His wife even helped him in the evenings and brought him beer!

Third was an article in Road & Track about three decades ago. A guy in San Francisco had a restored Triumph TR3 and had no garage so he put a garage door in a living room wall and kept it between the couch and TV.

We all know about English car guys but talk about improvising!

All 100% true. I swear upon my 1500 Spitfire---that hasn't been touched in years. How large is your living room??????

        Re: How was it assembled?

Honest to God, Steve, the first thought on my mind this morning when I woke up was wondering if I could figure out how to get the cracked fender off and down to my little workshop in the basement.

People are really used to some strange things that end up in my house, and I have no problem whatsoever with what anyone thinks about my idea of good housekeeping.

No indoor place to work is not something I consider enough to stop this project......If I clear out my storage shed, and get the tools up out of the basement where they are within reach, I just can't see any reason why this won't work.

Then tap through a house wall to find wires for an outdoor electrical outlet to run power cords out there, and I'll be in business.

Thanks for the stories.....I find them very encouraging.

        Best, Sandy

Confession time---while living in Georgia we were fortunate to have a "walkout" basement. I took out the access door, had double doors made of two 4' wide doors, added a slight ramp to the patio, cut a removable 10 foot section in the fence and drove 'em in! You could put in some wide french doors.

Good Luck Sandy! I am certain you will get it done!---errrr "Git R Done" as Larry the Cable Guy says.

You can always rent space in someone's shop. Look for places where there are alot of small business who specialize in automotive repair. Talk to them and find out if there is any space avialable. You will see it is fairly inexpensive to rent space out. Especially now, plus, some good contacts and help.

                That's a possibility......solutions will come up.
Everything I need seems to arrive at just the right time.
