Typical Engine Build Date vs. Car Build

For those of you with original engines, what are your engine build dates, and how do they compare to your car build dates, for May 1965. Looking to find differences between engine and final build for Smith versus St.Louis cars built 5/65.
    Thanks in advance.

Joe here's a convertible I used to own for a couple of years, starting 1980. As the VIN was 5S116524, it HAD to be built the first production day of May, 'cause end of April = 16,516.

    Block: F042IHF, cast D_20_5.

IMO, could be closer than that (although a 300hp manual was one of the most popular), or more of a spread if rarely optioned (ie. 365hp w/AC w/K66).

      Joe -

There should be no pattern differences between the VINs (final assembly dates) of A.O. Smith and St. Louis-built bodies relative to the engine assembly dates, although there will be a wider spread between the trim tag body build dates and final assembly dates by VIN on A.O. Smith-built bodies.

The VINs were assigned at the same point on the Hard Trim Line for all bodies, whether they were built at St. Louis or at A.O. Smith.

I agree with John! Take a look at the survey data published in Noland Adams' Vol 2 restoration book on dated parts/sub-assy components and you'll see the standard deviation/variance related to individual dated parts vs. VIN is reasonably large...
