1968 Windshield Washer Nozzle Finish

I am having my early production 1968 convertible painted and
am not sure what finish that the washer nozzles should be.
My painter says that they should not be painted the body color
(International Blue). Nozzles were purchased at Carlisle last
summer (OUCH !!!). Any help would be appreciated.

I think they were Zinc phosphated black for the early cars and then semi flat black paint for the later 68 cars. When install it will be partially painted on the top. Make sure you have the early correct wiper grill as it has the cut outs for the washer nozzel.
Also the 68 grill mounting brackets including the lower ones rivoted to the lower valance are all zinc phosphated black.
Also the 68 early door sills are different from late 68 to 75.
Also early 68 front bumper is different.
Anyone else can chime in???

Please explain what you mean about the door sills and front bumper. Pictures would be great.

Pic of the front edge with early door sill at the top. Top view pic with the late door sill on the bottom. On top is the early 68 door sill. Notice the width on the side is much wider. Very hard door sill to find.

Bumper 68 as pictured, noticed the straight edge on the bottom7. Late 68 to 69 and possibly 70 on the bottom It has the 3 round notches.

Please note the square edged of the mounting bracket with slight shaved edge about 3/4 inch. That is correct for 68 to 69 and possibly 70. So many people replace with an incorrect 71/72/73 front bumper and find out it is different and they cut the extra bend but still not the same as the width of the 68/69 front bumper mount is wider.

I have #9643 which is considered "Early" I believe around 10,000 is where it starts no longer early production. This info was garnered at judging meet last year.

I have never heard the information about the door sill and the front bumper on a '68 before this and I have been in the process of restoring mine for the past 9 years. Thanks for the pictures. Do you have the aporoximate vin #'s where the changes occured?

Perhaps you all ready know the '68/'69 judging manual is in the process of being redone. This information along with the pictures would be very helpful to the restorer and judges. Do you have anyother '68 abnormality that you would like to share.

Early is what I consider 68's be Assembled in Sept 67, Oct 67 Novn67 Dec 67, That would be vin 00905 to vin 10000 as Jack's car is. His is an early one. His car is probably assembled very late Dec 67

Its been 10 years restoring my 68. I'm finding out stuff that I never knew either. Just found out 68 S/B A/C cars used a one off fan. Its in the parts book and I had thought it was a B/B fan blade for the L88 but I took it off an original 68 435 hp car. So in some cases as Joe and I discussed it could have been used. But the B/B fan blades has a deeper pitch. So we figured it was not for an 435hp car or L88 but for that rare 68 A/C cars.
The width of the early 68 door sill is 4 x 9/16th wide. I can only guess this came on the Sept 67 to very very early Dec 67 assembled 68 production corvette. I don't think it came on the Jan assembled 68 cars.
I will try and figure out how to submit to the revision of the 68/69 judging book.

Out of curiosity I'm wondering how do the plastic headlight shields get attached without the three U notches in the bumper that allow access to the screws?
