I am looking for the style of print used on the 1969 427 block. I have seen two different styles for the letter "M" in the suffix. One set has the "center legs" of the M coming all the way down to the base line and another one has the "center legs" of the M stopping halfway down. Can someone tell me which is correct or could they have used different styles on the same year blocks??

Re: Block Stamp 1969
There was no standardized, guaranteed font used in either the VIN derivative or engine plant stamp on any engine, any year Corvette AFAIK.
If you are trying to determine if a stamp pad is authentic and original try comparing it to other engines made shortly before or afterwards. Al Grenning has a huge library of stamp pad pctures- Top

Re: Block Stamp 1969
I have SN 723929 if anyone has a close one to that , but also has an M, Id appreciate a picture, or at least let me know if the M center legs go to the base line or stop short. I know this is a long shot but I figured give it a try. Thanks.- Top

Re: Block Stamp 1969
No this is not for "restamping". But assume as you wish....The question came up on the Corvette Forum and it made me look at mine. When I saw the different style M I figured Id ask the question, seems reasonable to me. Since the most knowledgable people are here I figured what better place to ask. I have lots of pictures on mine and as soon as i figure out how to get them up here I will do so with alot more pictures.

No, No,
I try not to assume anything, I always try to ask.
IF you were concerned about the variation of your "M", I would think it benificial to also verify the Font, broach marks, typical stamp wear strike anomolies, etc.
A lot of nuances within a Tonawanda stamp.Last edited by John M.; January 7, 2009, 01:11 PM.- Top
