    67 schock judging questions

Need some info while I am waiting for my judging manuals to come. My (almost) all original 67 coupe does not have original shocks. does any body know where I can buy? what about service replacement shocks. Need to try and get this taken care of before May regional Tahoe event. Thanks1

    Re: 67 schock judging questions

Hello John, I have the original rears from my 67 390 roadster.I had them for sale @ Carlisle last yr. but people were quite cautious to spend the $$$ that they sell for due to the current economic climate. Can't blame em.After judging I put on AC Delco replacments & they are just fine! One of the other men can probably recall the point loss for wrong year Delco's but it can't be too much.

John, as mentioned by another poster, original dated shocks can be found, but typically the prices are astronomical. I witnessed the purchase of a very low mileage, mint, original set of F41 shocks, with 1967 dates sell at a purchase price of $4K. No, I'm not kidding.
The most often recommendation I hear, is the purchase of new Delco shocks, for one's vintage Corvette. I do know that someone is selling reproduction shocks on eBay, with 1960s dating stamped on them. Seems like they were about $500 a set.
I was lucky enough to have originals for mine.

Good carburetion is fuelish hot air . . .

Like I said John, it's fun to check the swap meets. And score when no one knows. But eBAY sales are expensive, and they were lousy 25 cent (YES CHEVROLET PAID 25 CENTS PER SHOCK ) non quality item. The F-41'S were good units, but standard were just that, standard throw away units.

Get the current Delco shocks, paint with original colors, and apply the correct stickers. The rears will get a small deduct for service replacement, the fronts generally do not allow the P/N and date to be judged so may get full credit wors case would be the same situation as the rear.

                John-----

The currently available Delco shocks are:

                front---GM #88947653, aka Delco #530-315

                rear----GM #88945172, aka Delco #530-4

I like the Quanta gray/blue shock absorber paint. However, most medium gray "off-the-shelf" paints will likely pass judging.
