Edward:
The number stamped underneath the "tray" is a date and shift number. Look in the archives and you will find many threads about this. Post the number here and I or someone else can decode it for you. Better yet, post a picture of it. I have collected many photos of these for a possible future article in The Restorer so I would love to see it.

Re: 72 cpe. Removeable rear storage compartment
JEFF-
Are you interested in ALL of the C-3's or just the 70-72 model years? My 1974 convertible has a PAINTED number on the rear side of the storage compartment. It looks like someone has sprayed paint over the number to hide it, not sure how to get to it? The compartment is of the "cardboard" type, NOT the PVC / Plastic as that are offered thru the Repo companies nowadays.

Martin:
I am interested in ALL original C-3 jack trays. They were all pressboard not plastic. I would love to see the markings that you have on the side of yours even though all that I have seen are on the bottom but you never know what is possible (there are some that have no markings at all). Thanks for you help.

Here's a couple of pics from my 72's tray. It's a little ragged.

Brian:
Thanks for posting those pictures. The condition of your tray is not all that bad. In fact, you can repair it to like new condition very easily. Don Lowe a fellow member who is quite often on this board wrote a great article for the MI chapter magazine on the repair of these boxes. I am hoping that it will appear in the Restorer soon. Perhaps he will send you the article and you can do the repair if you want to (are you out there Don?). The date- "131 72" translates to 1st shift, March 1, 1972. Hope this helps.

Re: 72 cpe. Removeable rear storage compartment
Jeff,
I went out and pulled both storage trays from my '71's. Both are in nice original condition. The white car Apr 20 trim tag has no ink stamping at all. The orange car Mar 18 trim tag has 3 2 26 71 stamped in ink on bottom of tray. I assume this is 3rd shift Feb 26, 1971.- Top

Warren:
I have seen some trays that had no code at all. Either they were never stamped (missed by accident) or the numbers were wiped off by an overzealous previous owner. You are right in your reading of the one with the stamping. Would it be possible for you to take a picture of that one and either post or send to me in a private message? I am documenting the variations in the stamping format which are extensive.

Re: 72 cpe. Removeable rear storage compartment
Jeff,
Do you have a photo of one with black covering all of the sides?
I have seen one, but don't have an image. I believe the sides were painted black while a group of them were nested inside each other, but of course the one on the bottom would have been covered on all sides with the black-out paint.
FWIW: The original on my 1970, Jan 29 on the trim tag, has no date.Terry- Top

Terry:
Sorry, but I don't have a picture of an all black box. The pictures I am collecting are from the bottom and most don't show the sides at all. If I come across one I will forward it to you.

I have several photos of mine but this Board won't let me post them. Says they are to big and I don't know how to resize them. I'll send some via email to you.- Top

Re: 72 cpe. Removeable rear storage compartment
Jeff,
I am attaching several photos of mine from my '71. It is a little rough, but I have heard that they are not too difficult to repair. I will scour the archives when I have the time. Meanwhile, I hope these are of interest to you.

Re: 72 cpe. Removeable rear storage compartment
Dave:
It is not hard to re-size a photo to the 800 X 600 required. If you are using Windows, open the file (picture) you want to send. Click on the "picture" tab on the tool bar. Find "Re-size" on the drop down and follow the prompts. Once you have changed the size you can save it as the new size and then upload to the discussion board. Try it and see if it works.

Re: 72 cpe. Removeable rear storage compartment
Do you have Microsoft Office?
You can download "Microsoft Office Picture Manager" as a free add-on, and it works well to resize pictures.
