    68 rear carpet install

I am in the process of installing the carpet in my 68 coupe.
I was curious if someone could send pic's of the rear fenderwell carpet where it meets the carpet behind the back of the seats.
The assemble manual really does not show much for carpet install and the carpet mfg. does not have instructions.
I am replacing all the interior panels and finding out that they do not fit like the originals.
Is there anybody who replaces the vinyl on the plastic panels?
    I would appreciate any comments.
    Thanks, Jim.

    Re: 68 rear carpet install

    Jim,

I have attached photos I think will help you with your installation. My '68 is a convertible, however I do not believe there is any difference with the carpet installation on a coupe. This is not the original carpet. I replaced it about 2 years ago with oem carpet from one of the vendor who advertises in the Driveline. I had the carpet installed by a local shop.

I included shots of the interior rear quarter panel too. My originals were damaged and I could not find a vendor who would redo the originals. I purchased reproductions from one of the national Corvette supply companies.

    I hope this helps.

      Thanks Terry for the reply.
It was a little hard to tell on the upper corner, were the two carpets come together do they tuck into the groove?
      Thanks again for the pic's

        Jim,

I am not sure what area you are referring to. Just tell me what area you need more detailed pictures and I will send more.

          Terry,
If you could take a closer pic where the carpet behind the seat meets the carpet that runs forward over the wheelwell next to the interior rear quarter trim that will help alot. I can see it in your pic #2 I am interested in how they meet. I think they butt together in a groove in that corner. I just want to be sure.
Thanks so much for your help.

            Hi Jim,
I'm sorry I can't help with some pictures.
Putting the carpet in the rear area is no joke BUT I can give you 1 hint.
Try to find the special scissors that trimmers use that has a dial that you can set to 'CUT' and 'UNCUT". Sorry!
            Good Luck with your project.
            Regards,
            Alan

              Alan,
Thanks for the reply. Where do you find such a animal? I never heard of a scissors with a dial.

                Jim,

Sorry it took me longer than I expected on the pictures you requested. I was up late last night watching our Ohio State Buckeyes almost pull out a victory over a very good Texas team.

I would say you are correct with the carpet being pushed into the groove behind the seat on the wheel well. I think I took the pictures you need to check that area out.

Let me know if you need anything else. I hope you post some pictures after you are finished. I'd like to see how it looks. Some shots of your exterior would be good too. Good Luck!

                  Terry,
Thanks again for the pic's! This is going on a two year project rebuilding this car. It usually takes me six months.
I am finally seen some light at the end of the tunnel . There were so many major parts on this car that the numbers did not match so it took me a while to locate. I did a complete nut and bolt disassembly. I had every metal part in this car powder coated. The repop interior has really slowed me down on assemble. I wish I could locate somebody who would replace the vinyl on the interior plastic then I know everything would fit.
Thanks again and I will send some pic's soon.
                  Jim
