Painted Heater Diffuser

I have a heater diffuser box, made of "cardboard" that has been painted. Is there a way to remove the paint without damaging the "cardboard"? I have removed hard boxes with thinner and rags/cotton balls but am uncertain how to do the "cardboard".

Steve, Since you describe as "cardboard", may I assume you are talking C1. In any case, please define what year car you are dealing with. I suck as a mind reader...

Assuming it's a C1.......

Ironically the other day I glass bead blasted some bolts that I stuck in a cardboard box with black paint on it from my prior paint jobs. Light blasting removed the paint on the bolts.....and the paint on the cardboard. It left the cardboard pretty smooth.

I wonder, maybe light blast pressure using something other than glass bead, like walnut shells would be safe. You may want to experiment on something else first, but I have a feeling it may work.
