    Re: Interior Mirror 72 Coupe

When having my 72 restored I asked the shop to install the new mirror I bought prior to giving the car to them. When I gave it to him he said that it was not correct for the year, the one he took off was stainless back with grey trim and a light grey knob. The one I purchased was black trim, back and knob.
I looked into it and apparently there was a change in design of the rear view mirror from 71 to 72. In 71 it was as listed above and leftovers were used on early 72's (typical). My car was an early 72 car so it had a leftover from 71.
Don't know if this helps, good luck

The TIM&JG gives the change point for the 1972 interior rear view mirror and the dash knobs. Generally, and off the top of my head it was at the Holiday break -- so calendar year 1971 built model year 1972s got the 1971 style (or early style) interior parts, and calendar year 1972 model year 1972s got the reduced glare parts. The change in the federal standard was effective Jan 1, 1972 and they chose to use the old parts right up to the deadline.

I think what Ed is asking relates to the lever color. TIM & JG indicates the lever should be gray and he has black. The remainder of his mirror fits the description. I honestly don't remember seeing a black mirror with a gray lever but I may be wrong. Maybe Reba can assist.

I don't think I have ever seen gray knobs with black mirrors either. The one on my car is a GM replacement bought in 1985, and it is black/black. Maybe some early black ones used leftover gray knobs????
