I just purchased the battery Butler from Lectric Unlimited. Other than following the simple instructions, any thoughts? My repro R89 is still in the car with the diconnect knob disengaged, do I need to take both cables off the battery or just hook up the Butler? Happy New Year

Re: Battert Tender/Butler
Jack,
You have to connect the negative clamp on the post of the battery when using the disconnect. If you clamp onto the other side of the disconnect, it will not charge. You will be able to tell by watching the LED's.
Other than that, set it & forget it.

Re: Battert Tender/Butler
I have 3 of them, and they work great. If your battery is in good condition, and there is not too much drain on the system, the light should blink every few seconds. I have one that won't blink though. Fenwick- Top

Re: Battert Tender/Butler
I have a 2003 C5 and when I put this charger on, the "Trouble" light comes on. It's a new battery. Instead of using the clamps on the charger to the side posts, should I hook up the permanent attachment and use the plug in instead of the clamps?
Thanks- Top

Re: Battert Tender/Butler
If you have a wet battery like mine, you want to check your levels in the cells every so often. During the hot summer months (not your problem, right?), I've had mine go dry (low) in a few cells. Not sure if it was boiled out or evaporated, so I check it as part of my start up procedure - that and my brake fluid.

Re: Battert Tender/Butler
Hi Jack:
Sure hope your outstanding 1968 Le Mans Blue beauty is comfortably sheltered from the New Jersey winter. Spring cannot come soon enough for this Jersey Corvette guy.
I've been using the Battery Tender Plus on my 1970 and 2003 Z06 for years, with excllent results. On my 1970, I have a battery cut off and hook the Battery Tender Plus clips to the posts. Both cars see minimal activity; so,right after the occassional drive, the Battery Tender Plus is re-installed. When I decide to go for a ride, the ignition key is installed and the car starts right up. Why argue with success ?

Re: Battert Tender/Butler
I caution anyone considering one of these to avoid the new Sears Diehard battery maintainers. I had one Sears Diehard battery maintainer that was several years old and worked great. Its about the size of a brick and weighs as much as a brick. I liked it so I bought another one. The new ones from Sears look just like the old one, but are light as a feather. That new one seemed to work fine too. A year went by and I got a couple more cars so I bought two more Sears units. One failed after a couple of days and would not shut off, constantly charging the battery. I caught it before any real damage was done. I thought it was just a fluke and so I exchanged it. The exchange was "dead on arrival." Meanwhile, the other brand new Sears unit developed a loud hum and I was afraid to leave a car plugged into it. So I took them back and got a refund and went and bought the more expensive Battery Tender brand to replace them. A few days later, the year-old Sears unit started making unusual "noises" and so I unplugged it. The old "brick" Diehard is still trucking, but three new style Diehards in a row, died hard. Just thought I'd post so nobody else would make the same mistake I did.- Top
