    4 Spd Transmission Included in my 56 project, ID info?

    Hi,

    Attached to the March 1960 Flint 283 under the hood of my '56 Corvette project, was a later bellhousing and GM cast iron manual transmission. I can't locate any references in my books or internet. I don't know if it's for Corvette, Pass car, or Truck, but it appears it may be a Saginaw unit, as the reverse lever is within the maincase 7 bolt cover. It also has a switch for backup light (or neutral safety)? Any help would be appreciated.

    These are the numbers:

    Main case: 339935
    with a cast date of Cx02, the "x" appears to be a screwhead.....oddly.

    Front Cover(at main shaft): GM22 3820740

    Maincase Side Cover: 6261886

    Tailshaft: 352254
    with a cast date of F275

    Bellhousing: 460486

    =====
    Thanks,
    Rich

        late 60's thru 70's GM brands, including pickups. i don't care for them as much as the t-10's and muncies.However, the ZF-6 is my favorite, mike

          LOTS of those were used in 307/327 and 2-barrel 350 early Camaros and Novas; SS350's and 396's and Z/28's all used Muncies.

            Chevrolet V8 low performance applications, nothing with solid lifters or HP in the Sales description. Always discernible by the three shafts coming thru the side cover. Not generally recommended for engines over 250 HP.

              Being found more and more often in "body-off" restorations of auction cars, especially those that require cast iron T-10s. Percentage goes WAY UP in those auction cars also built without heaters and radios (There were a LOT more Corvettes delivered in Hawaii than I thought........
