I was looking at the 65 fuel conv. on ebay and was told that the car was stolen and that a reissued trim&vin tag were put on the car. I have an interest in the car but the fact that the original tags are missing bothers me a bit. How did the owner get GM to reissue tags for the car? I am sorry if this is a dumb question. Thanks in advance.

Re: 65 fuel conv. on ebay
GM would not have reissued a VIN tag. If the car has a new and legit VIN tag, it would have been issued by the BMV. They are the only ones that can legally issue a new VIN. Nothing wrong with a new VIN issued by the BMV as long as you do your due diligance and make sure it is legit. Just keep in mind that this would not make the car a good candidate for judging and it will also negatively effect the value of the car.Last edited by Donald T.; December 30, 2008, 07:15 PM.- Top

At an early judging retreat they had a car exactly as you describe. It had many documents including a statement signed by many team leaders (I think at a Joplin Regional). They viewed it before restoration and listed what they believed were the original options. A very interesting car. Don H.- Top

Re: 65 fuel conv. on ebay
Jody, thanks I did not see that. I would have loved to have been there and seen the car before the restoration. The car looks great but not having the original tags bothers me I have to admit, especially for the price that they are asking.- Top

Re: 65 fuel conv. on ebay
That's correct - the process for replacement started at the dealer, went to the Zone office, then to Chevrolet Central Office, who would issue a replacement GM VIN plate if all the criteria were met. I think that program went away when the 17-digit VIN's started in '80 or '81.- Top

If this is the car, I would be happy to pick you up at the airport, and put you up in a spare bedroom. Just email me if interested.
p.s. I'm wondering if fellow Tulsa resident, and judging chairman Roy Sinor knows some additional history on this car? (sorry Roy, for volunteering your brain). Ridge.Good carburetion is fuelish hot air . . .- Top

Re: 65 fuel conv. on ebay
Ridge, thank you for your very generous offer. The car on ebay is the car that Roy had on his website a couple of years back and was featured in the restorer. I definetly would not do an ebay purchase as I had gotten burned last year in buying a car sight unseen from someone I thought that I could trust. Anyhow I like the car but there are some things about it that bothers me also so I have to do some soul searching about this. Thanks again. Steve- Top

If you come however, you will have to listen to a few of my Corvette stories. Most of them are true. Ridge.Good carburetion is fuelish hot air . . .- Top
