    40 years ago today

    December 30, 1968

    I traded this car:

    For this one:

Had all the loan transfer paperwork done on Friday, Dec 27, 1968, and drove up from Norfolk, VA to Scranton, PA with my Renault on Monday to make the transfer. Made the trade in a Triple A office in Scranton.

Anyboby know a Donald J. Paulino from Scranton, PA. Been looking for him for a few years. Want to know if he still has my old Renault 10, and to show him the Top Flight Ribbons on my 67 Corvette

You'd sure look "sportin" in the Renault today, Jerry.

Looks like one freshly-minted Ensign next to that Renault!

Gerry - just curious what the price differential was. My first car was a 1974 Renault 17 Gordini that was no Corvette but still a fun car for a 16 year old.

                  John,

You are right! That was less than 3 months out of OCS on a trip home to Queens, NYC. Just 22, 130 lbs but lean and mean. Actually my first car.

But I got my second car (the Corvette) as a seasoned JG
(and then could barely afford it)

Boy, how time flies when you are having fun

                  Happy New Year,

                    Mark,

That 67 Renault 10 was a great little car, 4 banger, 4 on the floor, 4 doors. The front seats went down to meet the rear so you could make a bed out of the whole interior (to go camping or other purposes).

In 67, the Renault sold new for about $1800.

My roommate in our Virginia Beach snake-ranch, Don, bought this new 67 Corvette base engine convertible, 4 speed, hardtop, for about $4700.

I owe the trade to his wife-to-be. Don was getting transferred to Philly, and was going to get married. His wife-to-be flat told him "Get rid of the Vette, and get a nice family car."

Hearing this, I told Don "I have the perfect family car for you"

The rest was history. At the time of the trade the Renault was worth about $1000, and the Corvette about $3500. So I gave him the Renault and $2500 for it.

I think I got the better part of the deal

I'd say that was one bright, young ensign making that trade.

I left for the Navy not long after you, and during those nights on watch would fantasize of one day owning a black Corvette convertible.

Took about 40 years but I digress. Thanks for the memories.
