    Removing Aluminized Paint

Need some advice on removing aluminized paint from the exhaust system of a 90 ZR-1. Apparently someone thought "restored" and "pretty" were the same thing. I don't want to use sanding or wire wheels, as they will ruin the original surface.

Try a carb spray like berkible B101. http://www.berkebileoil.com/special.htm

DOT 3 brake fluid, brake cleaner, and carb cleaner are very effective paint removal chemicals.

In the case of brake cleaner and carb cleaner, they can be sprayed under pressure into the smallest of areas which makes for a thorough job.

        Jim,
Paint is more difficult to remove once it has been on for a while with the heat cure of the hi temp paint. I suggest to remove the exhaust and have at it with paint stripper. Something strong, if it is an enamel or urethane base paint. Lacquer thinner doesn't do much to "baked cured" high temp finish. Use rags not wire brush or steel wool if you want the original steel look to come back.
