    Re: New forum area?

JMHO........the tech stuff has been a valuable tool for me and really don't know what I would do without it. The pool of knowledge here is beyond belief.
But, it's great to get to know everyone involved here.....funny stories, behind the scenes at the assembly lines, all of it. Would really hate to see that go away.
Perhaps a special Icon that would denote conventions, meets, and related photos to make it easier to find that particular type of info on the TDB?
    Best, Sandy

      no, leave it alone.............

NO NO NO....... things are just fine like they are.

Stop changing stuff all the time.

The web site just got revamped and after learning how to use it, it is just fine.

        I'd rather have a for sale/wanted section.

          Re: New forum area?

Seems like the majority of people would like to see a forsale/wanted section and a "off topic section" but I don't see this happening unless the NCRS leradership agrees, since there are concerns about resources to moderate if I'm not mistaken. Also, there's always going to be folks who prefer simpler vs. more options, because it means less clicking and less of a learning curve. I don't see why folks who would like to discuss odd topics or want to trade parts should be forced onto other sites. I think we should build this community.

Would the moderators bring this up with the NCRS leadership and see what is required or can be done? My understanding is only people higher up in the NCRS leadership are allowed to moderate. Am I mistaken in that understanding? Ifso, then if we opened up moderation to other NCRS members who are willing and able to help, we could do a lot more with the site I think.

I feel things are just OK, you've done a good job, other forum are so confusing that I've given up on some there like a rats net. Only other thing I feel would benefit here is a separate (wonted and for sale ) section.

              Re: New forum area?

In general, I prefer more specialization/organization. I hate sifting through a single forum to find the specific information I'm looking for. I like the organization of the "Corvette Forum" as an example. The "Parts for Sale/Wanted" sections for each generation has been an invaluable aid to my restoration projects. But this all comes at a cost because the more forums there are to manage/monitor, the more work for the webmaster of the site.

                Ian,

I believe that anyone who is willing can volunteer to help making NCRS activities or actions a success. You don't need to be high in any hierarchy. Just make it clear how you would like to help and I'm sure you will be warmly welcomed...

                greetings,
                Rob.

                  Hi Sandy,

I'm not suggesting stopping the Tech forum, I'm just proposing to open a sub-forum (like the discussion Board Help! area) for NCRS related threads like event announcements, discussion on NCRS processes and the organization, event evaluations or pictures, etc., etc.

I will say this... I don't think I've ever visited another forum with so few sections as this one.

I think that would get used more than an NCRS event board.

It doesn't seem to me that there is a place to pose such a question properly. It wouldn't be "technical", you can't post in "archives", it wouldn't be "forum help" and it wouldn't be "test forum". I guess it would have to go in "technical", even though it's not a technical question.
Kenneth, we already have an "events" section. Look at the forum home page and scroll to the bottom and it gives you a listing of upcoming events.

Again, I'm not advocating changes to this forum. It's just that I have much more respect for the opinions and information coming from the experts on this site than from those on other sites, and maybe would like to get their advice on non-technical issues concerning corvettes from time to time. And one person's intrepretation of a "technical" issue may not agree with others' opinions, and how is one to know.

                          Thanks,

                          Ken

                            Hi Rob,
I knew you weren't proposing to do away with the tech stuff......I would just hate to see it become so techie that all the other somewhat off-topic stuff was eliminated.
I've been on the other Corvette sites and don't like them much.
As mentioned above, there already is an events section.....maybe it just needs to be a little more visible, easier to get to........and a 'wanted/for sale' section would really be nice, especially for limited knowledge people like me that knows she needs some part, but needs to ask questions to make sure it's the right part. (I know I could phone someone about a part for sale in Driveline, but I would mostly rather e-mail.)
                            Best, Sandy

                              Steven,

While what you say is correct, IMHO it would be nice to have something that can be updated in real time or where people other than the meet organizer can post info regarding the meet.

For example, one could query people's experience with this or that hotel at a given site, last minute logistics info, caravan or road tour info, etc. The current format is not conducive to sharing of information interactively.

                                Joel,
Those are really valid points......the artists that I do shows with in the western states have an informal pool of info to share, as you are talking about. It makes life so much easier.
And I like to take pictures, and would do so at meets (and would be more likely to go to meets, if I knew the ropes without having to spend too much precious time running down info).....it would be nice to post them in an 'events' section....for those interested in them.
                                Best, Sandy
