Re: Can you identify this special car?
Mike is correct - was part of the estate of a fellow in the sand blasting business, who also had room to park the stray dogs he collected at the right price. Whoever purchased the hodgepodge tried to move it a couple of times and I think finally found a volunteer buyer. I've got the VIN somewhere and when it reappears as a pristine FI car with 78 miles at a B-J auction down the road, perhaps we'll have "picture day".- Top

Re: Can you identify this special car?
Reminds me of a 56 I bought in Hawaii in 72 for $300. It was sitting in the weeds at a small village on the west end of Oahu. I needed an original steering wheel for my 56 so I bought the car, took the parts I needed and sold it to a friend. It was red with the extended nose and no fake vents on the top of the fenders. It was one of three 56's I bought there.- Top

Re: Can you identify this special car?
As Loren points out the car was for sale on Ebay a few years ago. I talked to the owner at the time and the background on the car was skecthy ( although connections to Duntov testing was being suggested ). My inclination is to believe it to be a privatley customized car as many early cars were.
I was hoping someone would by now have determined its history..because in this hobby you just never know.
Cecil..there was a Hawaiian Speed weeks held in about April 1957 where Louis Brero was killed. There is a possibilty that one of your 56's may have been at that Oahu race event.
I have a file of news clippings and the original program from that 1957 event.

Re: Can you identify this special car?
I'm pretty sure I looked at this car, or at least pictures of it. The seller was liquidating his fathers collection and I bought several parts from him including 2 60 T-10's and some 58-60 fiberglass rear body skin and trunk lid skin with bulletholes in them. My impression of the car was that it was just customized but I didn't give it much thought since I had too many projects already.- Top

Re: Can you identify this special car?
Upon a closer look at the picture..it appears to have had a circular sticker on the door. Race number or business ad?

Re: Can you identify this special car?
Looks like one. The same shading, but not a circle, is on the door just in front of the handle.
Can anyone make out the license plate in the grill opening?- Top

Re: Can you identify this special car?
The memory banks are a little mushy tonight, due to NOT having my manhattan yet.
I know that I took some pictures, because that was the day we started dealing on the Dual-Ghia. Now the issue will be to find the photos.- Top
